You Wilin' Son

This by far blows anything I've ever seen on MTV Cribs out the water. Nigo has made a fortune off his ever expanding Bathing Ape brand with its signature camouflage print and several other ventures. his entrepeneurial pursuits have kept him very busy but not so busy that he can't make time to indulge his wildest desires. Now he can afford car parks built into his living room and oddly enough one of the worlds largest Star Wars collections. Definitely my favourite nerdy Japanese street wear mogul.

Where I'm From

In another instalment of hip-hop nostalgia I bring you Digable Planets. I'll spare you my usual rant on how hip-hop lost its bearings and how back then music had soul and blah blah we don't care old man...

However I will mention I was pretty surprised to hear this verse

"we be readin' Marx where I'm from, the kids be rockin Clarks where I'm from"

They be reading Marx where your from?? As in Karl Marx, the founder of such socioeconomic notions as alienated labour and the idea of an economic superstructure ? They must have been educated in the ghettos in 93, nowadays all the kids wanna do is learn how to dougie. That's my 2 cents...

Lego Concentration Camp

A series of 7 Lego kits were designed by Polish artist Zbigniew Libera (I couldn't make that up) in the late 1990's. The initial designs were set to be a prison and a hospital which eventually mutated into a concentration camp with shock therapy stations, gas ovens and mass grave sites. All the Jewish lego pieces were depicted as skeletons. According to a press release issued by the LEGO Group, “If he had described his ultimate project to us in advance, he naturally would not have received a single LEGO element from us!”. These never hit shelves but it was rumoured that they fetched up to $7000 at private auctions. Disturbing...

Today's Inspiration: DIY Pop-Up Books

Just some cut out covers of old pulp novels but I really like the effect. Some of the action shots really come to life.

.

The Pharcyde. I dunno why this video had a different version for Amsterdam. Definitely more of an artsy vibe, and the weed references Imani spits in the second verse are fitting. Dope track by an underrated band.

BMW Gran Coupe

This car is sex on wheels. Every time I watch this I need a change of pants and a cigarette. And it's not slated to release for at least a few years, plenty of time for me to sell my screenplay to Hollywood and/or run a small pyramid scheme sales team selling earthquake insurance door-to-door and collect my millions. Muahahaha!

Can't Knock the Hustle

I gotta say, no rapper has been able to stand the test of time and stay relevant throughout the evolution of hip-hop like Jay-Z has. Even in today's watered down hip-hop landscape with auto-tuning in full effect, lyricism taking a backseat to "swagger" and style, and a fan base that thinks old school music is Dipset's first album, he somehow manages to mould. adapt, and deliver with the changing times. Call me sentimental but there is just something about Jay's lyrical talent on his few couple albums that really outshines the rest. Not knocking the new stuff for what its worth, and Jay would be the first to tell me "niggas want my old shit, buy my old albums", so it's clearly something he understands. He can't give us that hardcore lyrical flow anymore, not for lack of talent, but because that's not what the game is demanding anymore and Jay has always been a smart businessman. So I definitely can't knock the hustle, but listening to this track I really wish he would bless us old school heads with some of that lyricism just for old times sake.
"My pops knew exactly what he did when he made me
Tried to get a nut and he got a nut and what
Straight bananas; can a nigga, see me?
Got the US Open, advantage Jigga
Serve like Sampras, play fake a rappers like a campus
Le Tigre, son you're too eager" HOV!
